Kachikally Museum and Crocodile Pool
The Kachikally crocodile pool is located in the heart of Bakau, Gambia, about 10 miles (16km) from the capital Banjul.
It is one of three sacred crocodile pools used as sites for fertility rituals.
Kachikally is a privately owned crocodile pool belonging to the Bojang family of Bakau, one of the founding
families and major land owners of the city.

. Crocodiles are allowed to roam freely, and can be approached and touched by visitors.
Museum
At the entrance to Kachikally there is a small museum with a number of interesting photos about the history of Bakau and Gambia’s involvement in the Second World War. The real costumes of the kankurang are also nice. A mystical masked being that accompanies the circumcision ceremony of young boys. The museum also displays a collection of African musical instruments, including the harp-like kora, a 1.5-meter-long wooden xylophone and several ceremonial drums.
